Lead Optics Engineer

Job description
General Fluidics is looking for motivated people to join our growing team. General Fluidics is an in-vitro diagnostics company that has developed a novel end-to-end, fully integrated modular IVD platform for performing a growing array of blood and urine tests. The Axess platform uses a patented hybrid hardware architecture, fluidics, and optoelectronic technologies to go beyond test results to deliver complete diagnostic information sets at the point of care.
We are seeking a highly creative, and broadly skilled Lead Optics Engineer to join a fast-growing team to play a key role in developing our next generation platform. You will play a key role in design, integration, and manufacture of a unique laser cytometer.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Design and develop a laser flow cytometer module for blood analysis
Design, integrate, and test complex systems including hardware, software, thermal, optical and reagents
Provide leadership and architectural insights to enable design trade-off decisions
Verify, validate, and troubleshoot a laboratory diagnostic instrument with a system level mindset
Manage the interfaces between instrument and reagent disposable devices
Develop FPGA based data acquisition and high-speed low-noise electronic designs
Work with assay development team to translate manufacturer’s assay protocols to the Axess platform including optimization and verification testing
Work with software team to develop data analysis algorithms


Qualifications:
Minimum Bachelor’s degree in engineering
8+ years industry experience in life sciences instrumentation, IVD, or medical device space
Hands-on experience building and testing electromechanical systems including software, fluidic, mechanical, optical, and thermal control subsystems
Familiarity with common blood and urine analysis techniques including flow cytometry, coulter, ISE, and spectrophotometry
Ability to develop plans and schedules for a complex project and lead them through completion
Experienced user of SolidWorks or similar CAD software
Understands the use of agile and Scrum methods
Excellent communication skills, verbal and written


Preferred: Experience with IVD or Life Science hardware development used for processing and analyzing blood
Flow cytometer design and integration experience
Track record of developing a technology product through to successful product launch
